Cricket's reading this week

To go with Expedition Earth:
Afternoon on the Amazon by Mary Pope Osborne - Luckily we just happened to be on this book, as we are working our way through the series. Cricket LOVES Annie and Jack. They are like friends to her like I was "friends" with Laura and Mary Wilder. I can't ask for more from a book than that. This series has completely drawn her in and has her excited about reading. Cricket will listen to as many chapters at a time as I will sit and read.

Good Night, World by Willa Perlman - This was a really good review of terms and things in the world in a story setting. My favorite part was the end of the book which had ways to say goodnight in a variety of languages.

Pleasure Books:
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss - Cricket really enjoyed this book, to no surprise. All of Dr. Seuss' wonderful rhyming stories have been well loved in our house.

Sea Turtle's Clever Plan by Rebecca Johnson - This was the story of a baby sea turtles voyage from hatching to the sea. Cricket loved all the images of the baby sea turtles; they were seriously adorable by the way. She didn't get that into the story though. I think it would be a good book for an animal study or sea study.

A Horse and a Hero (Disney Tangled) (Step into Reading) - This easy reader was too advanced for Cricket, but she enjoyed hearing the story and she really enjoyed being able to read the words that she did know. This was an adaptation of the movie focusing on the roles that Flynn and Maximus played.

Bedtime Books (That we haven't already counted):
The Berenstain Bears and the Green-Eyed Monster

That makes 189 books total so far for 2011. I highly recommend joining in at the Read to Me Picture Book Challenge.

  2. I love the Magic Tree House books. When I was teaching, I could get even reluctant readers to try them out. I can't wait to introduce them to my boys.
Good Night, World sounds good. I'll have to look for that one at the library.
